Escape | salt lake city utah conceptual portrait photographer

Have you ever photographed a ballerina? You should. It is easily the most beautiful artistic experiences you can ever have. McKenna is a real life ballerina here in Utah and one's appreciation for grace can increase simply by being in her presence. These images come from a high school senior portrait session while mentoring another photographer, Valerie Bybee Photography. Valerie wanted to add more artistic images to her portfolio and I think our opportunity to photograph and interact with McKenna achieved that goal quite well. You can see images taken by Valerie at her website, here .

Windswept | salt lake city utah conceptual portrait photographer

"Windswept" Model: Danika Lucas Photographer: Wendy Hurst Learning from the experience of others is natural and necessary. Being inspired by other artists and practicing their techniques is a fantastic way to grow your talent. But letting them dictate your style and ideas forever because you don't know any other way will never truly satisfy you as an artist. Choose your destiny: find your own way. It might be scary. You might not get famous. You might not get rich. Forget those doubts. The worst case scenario of creating imagery you love and appreciate is worth your time: artistic fulfillment. Creative satisfaction. Some of the greatest painters, composers, writers and other types of artists died broke and perceived their work as failures. Accept the risk as your artistic creed and design imagery that makes you happy. With images that make you happy, there is no risk. But what about money, you say? An unlimited budget isn't necessary to design beautiful im

Red Wanderer | salt lake city utah conceptual portrait photographer

"Red Wanderer" (and other images). High School Senior: Dani Schriever Cloak: Wendy Hurst Photographer: Wendy Hurst Portrait  I love conceptual portraiture, but not everyone does. Traditional photos certainly have their place, and rightly so. Can you image trying to recognize someone from a conceptual portrait in a passport photo? The gambit is too vast. I imagine the security attendant tilting the image back and forth and  saying, "Now is this you on a chair upside down in a forest with hair blowing across your face?" That's why I do both traditional and conceptual portraits for clients, most especially for high school seniors. Remembering reality and imagination are important, after all. I mean,  that's how you don't get incepted... And to all you beautiful high school seniors out there, senior portraits qualify for my  name-your-price pricing!

"Left Alive". Model: Loralee Lopez Peralta. Wardrobe and Photos: Wendy Hurst Portrait. "Left Alive" Model: Loralee Lopez Peralta Wardrobe and Photos: Wendy Hurst Portrait Location: Murray Park, Murray, Utah The idea for this series came from this winter on the Wasatch Front here in Utah. I wanted to illustrate a story about a blossom waiting for the world around her to wake up, and having only a handful of snowstorms this year meant I could run outside in my socks during January and stand in a park where three seasons seemed to exist simultaneously during March: winter, spring, and summer.  Maybe I'll add to this series next fall...
