"Like a Painting": A Photo Shoot From Start-To-Finish

For some, the mystery of a final product can make one shy away from any attempt to create it herself. That used to be me. Stop it. You can do hard things. This photo shoot is evidence of that. Sometimes it just helps to know how something was done to muster the courage to take a risk and do it . So here's how this photo shoot with Quincy Staker featuring a handmade luxury cloak made by me went from thin air to final product. No secrets, just the lowdown on this photo shoot, start-to-finish. If you think of questions as you read, feel free to contact me on Facebook with or leave a comment below. Let's get started. The Value of a Questionnaire: Collecting Inspiration for a Photo Shoot

I'd been stuck for weeks and several times before that. It's a brick wall, a barbed wire fence that reaches to the sky, the type of problem that haunts your dreams with the black void that it is: writer's block. And it doesn't just affect writers, of course, it can strike anyone who wants to be creative in any capacity. Creativarian's Block. That's what I had. But even at its worst, a little research has found a way to cure me for life. Yes, for life . And that, my friends, is the capacity to work both alone and together. Sounds simple, right? Well...it is. Don't believe me? Set aside some time one day and watch this workshop with fine art photographer Brooke Shaden . She's simple, artistic, and (I think) a creative genius. Her workshop about how to find inspiration as a photographer has changed my creative life; maybe it will change yours too! Since listening to her lecture I've taken her advice about seeing old things in new ways to heart, and now

Be Enthused: Wendy Hurst Portrait. Salt Lake Editorial Portrait Photographer.

Wendy Hurst Portrait, formerly known as Perceptive Portraits (perceptiveportraits.blogspot.com) is the new name of my photography brand. By starting with a name more specific and personal, my goal is to emphasize a cause I'm passionate about: empowering women. Self image is difficult to master when influences around us provide so much conflicting information about who we should be or what we should look like or how much--or how " little" --we should value ourselves as women. I'm a photographer who sews, and I do both to inspire you--everyone, but especially women--to be enthused about your craft, even if your craft is simply being happy with you who you are.  It's my hope that my photography and the wisdom of those I photograph can inspire hope and courage to keep on shaping that person you want to become and to love the person you already are. You're beautiful as you  and I absolutely encourage that. Come follow me on Facebook (www.facebook.com/WendyShootsIt
