Wayfinder Photographer Collective: French-Inspired Boudoir Styled Shoot

You're likely to see more revealing clothing at the beach than you will in this article, and there's a simple reason for that: historically, French boudoir was just corsets and flouncy slips and bustles.

Let me back up. 

Last summer (2017) Ashley Gardner and I took a road trip with some models to Little Sahara Sand Dunes in Eureka, UT. On the drive we discovered we both had a dream to combine high production photo shoots with mini skills workshops that give those shoots more purpose. Wayfinder Photographer Collective is our co-hosted result of that conversation.

January 2018 was our first event and we picked something glamorous but not too flashy: a pastel-colored, French-inspired boudoir theme with luxurious desserts, a big wig, colorful corsets, and one-of-a-kind bustles that I designed and made myself!

Doing so lends inspiration and  actually yields titles that resonate with me most often.  For this reason a quote from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte recently stuck in my mind. "I am no bird; no net ensnares me." I also remembered a behind the scenes YouTube video by fashion photographer Joan Allen that I found by accident years ago of a shoot using calligraphy on the skin to add a dimension of edgy elegance. FanX 2022 | Utah Portrait Photographer Studio On Location

Salt Lake City, Utah |  FanX is a space of raw reality. Cosplayers emerge from their everyday self to an elevated version of self--or, someone/something else entirely. Artists become shapeshifters, inhabiting a character through what they're wearing, or what they hold, or what they say. Craftspeople from all walks of life swarm the halls with colorful excitement. It doesn't matter who you are, or where you came from, or where you're going. FanX is for everyone, like a moving, shifting, swirling, ever-changing exhibit of living art.
